I recently took a gamble and ordered a pair of denim overalls online from H&M. Maybe it really wasn’t a gamble since they offer free returns and the store is a measly 10 min drive from my house, but buying things online is always a gamble in my eyes! Try before you buy is usually the way to go.
I’ve wanted overalls for awhile now, but I was never able to find the right ones. Too tight around my pooch of a stomach, too long, bunches at the ankles, super saggy butt area, weird patches, odd rips, etc. Luckily, H&M came through and my gamble was totally worth it! This loose fitting pair has somewhat of a baggy crotch and butt look, but I think it actually makes it more comfortable that way. For my personal preference and body type, wearing overalls is kind of like wearing a bodycon dress: it only works if it’s not actually bodycon. AKA if it isn’t tight, it’s just right.
Now that it’s pretty much almost summer, I decided to test out these new overalls at a Sunday morning visit to my local Farmer’s Market. And yup, I felt like an actual farmer. I didn’t have a problem with it, but I got a few stares. Not the “oh wow, I like her cool outfit!” kind of stares, but more like the “Ohmagosh. Craig, honey, grab the kale and rutabaga and let’s get out of here. I can’t look at this poser for one more second!” kind of stares. Ok, that was way too dramatic, but unfortunately those were the vibes I was getting. WELL, YOUR LOSS LADY. Who wouldn’t want to watch me strut my stuff to the fresh orange samples??
But for real, wearing a pair of basic denim overalls may seem easy for some, but I’m slowly pushing myself to dress the way I want and to step out of my comfort zone. These overalls count as a step in that direction. I actually loved wearing them so much, the next day I bought a few cheap tops to wear underneath! A tip: in warmer weather, try and keep the overalls from looking too frumpy by adding a fitted and/or sleeveless number on top. But I can’t wait to try and style these overalls with a chunky sweater and heels in the winter too!
